HAQQ is building the AI Operating System for the legal industry. Our backend powers everything from practice management to AI-driven workflows. We need engineers who can own services in production and design APIs that scale gracefully as the product grows.
About the Role
We're hiring a backend engineer fluent in Rails who can own services in production — APIs, data, jobs, integrations, and reliability. No AI responsibilities baked in — this role is squarely about building and running the core backend that everything else depends on.
This role is based at HAQQ HQ in Beirut, Lebanon. We operate a hybrid work model.
In This Role You Will
- Build and maintain Rails-based backend services that power the product.
- Design APIs and data models that scale gracefully as the product grows.
- Own background jobs, async processing, and third-party integrations.
- Improve reliability, performance, and observability of what we run in production.
- Partner with frontend and mobile engineers to design APIs that are pleasant to consume.
You Might Thrive If You
- 3+ years of professional Ruby on Rails in production codebases.
- Strong fundamentals in relational data modeling, indexing, and query performance (PostgreSQL or similar).
- Comfort with background job systems (Sidekiq or similar) and async patterns.
- Experience designing and evolving REST APIs in a versioned, backwards-compatible way.
- Solid grasp of Rails patterns and conventions — and a sense of when to break them.
- Familiarity with caching, queues, and basic distributed systems concerns.
- Strong written communication.
- Nice to have: service extraction / decomposition in a Rails monolith, Docker / CI/CD / modern deployment workflows, and integrating payment gateways, auth providers, or other complex third-party systems.
